Hi. My name is Mary-Kim.

I’m a writer, artist, and educator.

I’ve written two books, Litany for the Long Moment, a memoir, and The Fish & The Dove, a collection of poems.

I was born in Korea, adopted, and raised in a suburb of New York. Now I live in Rhode Island.

I currently serve as the Dean of the Faculty & Academic Affairs at Vermont College of Fine Arts in Montpelier. Previously, I was Associate Dean for Equity & Inclusion in Teaching & Learning, and before that, I taught in the Nonfiction Writing Program at Brown University.

I’m Senior Editor for Collaborative & Cross Disciplinary Texts at Tupelo Quarterly, and I welcome queries and submissions.

Occasionally, I write essays about books, or interview authors and artists I admire.

I send out a very infrequent email newsletter with chatter and updates about all of the above. Sign up or send me a note. I am happy to hear from you.

Thank you for visiting!

After graduating with a degree in English & American literature, I stayed on at Brown University to do an MFA in Creative Writing. Then, I spent several years working in arts & cultural nonprofits. I’ve served as Executive Director of the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities, as Board President of the International Charter School, and of the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island. I co-chaired the Board of Dirt Palace Public Projects. I was the Director of Evaluation & Learning for the Rhode Island Foundation. Currently, I serve on the Boards of the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and The Providence Athenaeum. Here’s my CV.
